IBPS PO Nationality

To apply for the IBPS PO exam candidate must be one of following in the below list.

  • Citizens of India
  • The subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  • Exiles from Tibet who entered India before January 1, 1962, with the aim of staying there permanently.
  • PIOs are people of Indian origin who have moved to India permanently from countries like Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam or from East African countries like Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, or Malwai.
  • Candidates from 2, 3, and 4 should have a certificate of eligibility granted in their favour by the government of India.

IBPS PO Educational Qualification 

Graduation Degree: To apply for the IBPS CRP Exam, candidate must have graduation degree in any discipline from a university which is recognised by the government of India. Also, a candidate who has a degree which is recognise from central government is also eligible to apply for this exam.

Computer Literacy: To give the IBPS PO exam, candidates should have computer knowledge which is conducted in online mode.

IBPS has made the application form available online. To submit the IBPS PO Application fees, candidates must submit the fees online. For SC/ST/PwD candidates the application fees is 175 Rs. whereas for general and OBC Categories is 850 Rs.

Note: For IBPS PO Exam 2026, the photo size should be from 20kb to 50kb while for the signature, the size should be from 10kb to 20kb.

IBPS PO 2026 Exam- Selection Process

The selection process for the IBPS PO has several stages.

  • Preliminary Examination: This is the First stage of the IBPS PO exam and has three subjects: English language, quantitative aptitude and reasoning ability. This test is conducted online and has only objective types of question. Candidates who clear all the subjects are eligible to give the next stage.
  • Mains Examination: Candidates who pass the preliminary examination advance to the Mains examination. The Mains exam consists of multiple-choice questions covering Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, English Language, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General Economy & Banking Awareness, and a descriptive paper. Essays, letters, and other types of writing are commonly included in descriptive papers.
  • Interview: Candidates who pass the Mains examination are invited for an interview. The interview includes a discussion of current events, banking, and economics, among other topics.
  • Final Selection: The final selection is based on the candidate's overall performance in the Mains examination and the interview.

How to calculate final score for the IBPS PO Exam?

The final score for the IBPS PO exam is calculated with the following factors in mind:

The preliminary exam (Tier-1) marks will not be considered in the final score and will only be used to qualify for the Mains exam (Tier-2).

For final selection, candidates must pass the phase 2 exam and interview round.

The weightage (ratio) of the IBPS PO Mains exam and interview in the final merit list will be 80:20, respectively.

The aggregate score out of 100 is used to determine the final merit list for each category. Candidates with the highest merit rank in each Category are finally chosen.

The IBPS PO preliminary examination will be conducted online and will last for 1 hours. There are total numbers of three sections in IBPS PO which contains a total of 100 marks.

The IBPS PO pre exam has a negative marking of 0.25 for every incorrect answer. The Candidate must score above the cut off marks in all the three sections if they want to sit in the Mains exam. For more information, check out the below table.

Candidates must qualify for each of the three tests by achieving the minimum cut-off marks determined by IBPS. IBPS will shortlist an adequate number of candidates in each category based on the requirements for the online Mains examination.

Note: The marking scheme has been changed from the previous scheme; for example, 5 marks have been deducted from the Quant section, and those 5 marks have been added to the Reasoning sections. So, the new scheme is Quantitative Aptitude weighs 30 Marks and Reasoning Ability weighs 40 marks.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern 2026

The IBPO PO Mains Exam is also conducted online; it has 5 (4+1) sections with a total score of 200+25 marks and total duration of 180+30 minutes. In the Main exam, there will be a descriptive paper.  The sections must be attempted in the same order and the allotted time as mandated at the time of the exam. A candidate who clears both the preliminary and Mains examinations will be eligible for the interview process.

Note: In the Mains Exam, the exam duration, subject name, and number of questions have been changed. Duration has been changed from 3 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 10 minutes

Penalty for Wrong Answers: There is a negative marking for every wrong answer. It is important to note down that 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

For example, a wrong answer to a question worth one mark will result in a penalty of 0.25 marks. There will be no penalty for leaving a question blank, which means no answer is marked by the candidate.

IBPS PO Personality Test + Interview (Final Stage)

IBPS has introduced the Personality Test from Fy 2025 onwards and only those who qualify this stage will be able to appear for the interview, which is the final stage of the PO Exam.

1. Candidates qualifying with good marks in the Prelims and Mains of the IBPS PO exam will finally be appearing for the interview process.

2. The interview round is 100 marks.

3. The final score obtained by candidates in the exam is calculated by IBPS with the weightage of marks given to the main examination and interview ratio of 80:20, respectively.

IBPS PO 2026 Descriptive Test

IBPS has included the descriptive test of 25 Marks in the PO Mains Exam. The candidates will have to write an essay and a letter of 25 marks. The English Language Paper is to assess the candidates’ writing skills, and it is compulsory to pass this paper by securing a minimum cut-off. IBPS PO Interview 2026

Candidates who have been shortlisted in the Online Main examination for CRP- PO/MT-XIV will subsequently be
called for an Interview to be conducted by the Participating Organisation and coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each State/ UT with the help of IBPS. Interviews will be conducted at select centres.

  • The total marks allotted for the IBPS PO Interview are 100.
  • The minimum qualifying marks in the interview will not be less than 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD candidates).
  • The weightage (ratio) of the IBPS PO Online Main Exam and interview will be 80:20, respectively.
  • The combined final score of candidates shall be arrived at based on scores obtained by the candidates in the Online Main Examination of CRP-PO/MT-XIV and the Interview.
  • A candidate should qualify both in the Online Main Exam and interview and be sufficiently high in merit to be shortlisted for the subsequent provisional allotment process.
