CA Age Limit: Eligibility Criteria for Chartered Accountancy Exams

Before choosing any course, you may know about its   eligibility criteria and age limit. In this article, we’ll provide information about the age limit and eligibility criteria for the CA course.  

CA Foundation is the entry level of the Chartered Accountancy course. It is a four – paper exam conducted thrice in a year by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). You will study the

  •  Eligibility criteria: 

               To register for the CA Foundation Exam, you must be aware of the eligibility requirements, which are set by ICAI.

Age limit: There is no age limit for registering for the CA Foundation Course.

   Educational Qualifications: ICAI sets the following educational qualification guidelines :-

Students in class 12th may register provisionally for the CA Foundation course. However, they cannot sit for the CA Foundation Exam until they have completed their 12th grade with a minimum of 50% marks.

Those students who have passed class 10th from a recognized university by the state Ø or central government board or an equivalent exam, can apply for the CA Foundation or Common Proficiency Test (CPT). However, he can give the CA Foundation Exam or CPT only after completing the class 12th.

  • Direct entry route: 

Undergraduate and postgraduate: Those students who have completed undergraduate and post-graduation from a recognized university and have obtained 55% marks. They can directly register for CA Inter through the direct entry route.

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS): By direct entry route, they can register for CA Inter who have qualified UG and PG from open universities.

Non-commerce: Those students who have UG and PG degrees in other than the commerce stream, like arts or science stream and have obtained 60% marks from a Ø recognized university can directly register for the CA Inter.

  • Registration process for CA Foundation  

 Register and complete 4 months of theoretical education for the Foundation Course. Apply to appear in the Foundation examination by  filling up the prescribed exam form released by the examination section or department.

The following are the step by step process for apply the registration:-

  1. Go to the official link of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
  2. Click on the students’ option and go to the ‘course registration’ section.
  3. On the registration form section, click on ‘new user’.
  4. Enter your personal details.
  5. Click on ‘Generate OTP’ and verify it.
  6. After the completion of the verification process, your personal profile is created, and you will get the login details.
  7. Log in now and select ‘student cycle’.
  8. Click on ‘apply for foundation’ and fill in the necessary details, then click on ‘save and next.’
  9. Pay the registration fees.
  10. You will receive the registration form, and the form must be deposited within 7 days with the candidate’s signature.
  • Registration validity

       The foundation course will be valid for 4 years after you register for it.

         1. How many subjects are covered in the CA Foundation course?

 Ans. There are four subjects in the foundation course. In which two are objective whereas the other two are descriptive.
